What is MNxMN all about?

MNxMN is a grassroots community uniting advocacy groups with new and experienced activists across the state of Minnesota. We seek to maximize resources and develop advocates to strengthen our democracy and support representative government for all Minnesotans, regardless of economic status, race, color, religion, sexual orientation or party affiliation. Are you looking to connect with other activists and organizations, or tap into the incredible energy of new activists? MNxMN is the premier opportunity to share your skills and knowledge and make connections with people that can help move your work forward.

What is the target audience for this event?

The target audience for MNxMN includes: - state-wide advocacy organizations and experienced activist leaders - grassroots groups and organizers working on the ground for justice and equity - new activists who want to grow their skills, as well as volunteer and network with organizations that are doing the work on issues they care deeply about.

What types and durations of sessions are offered at this event?

Sessions will be held Sunday, February 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All sessions will be offered on content “tracks", to be determined. We have space for potential audience sizes of up to 35, 60, or 100 people, as well as full-group plenaries. We will also offer “walk-up” interactive stations in the exhibit hall focused on hands-on learning. Selected speakers will be assigned a session by the MNxMN Programs Committee. What is the program focus of the event?

MNxMN's mission is to educate and connect Minnesotans for empowered civic engagement. Sessions at this event will explore issues, strategies, and tools for grassroots organizing, and legislative and electoral civic engagement. We are interested in all proposals that blend theory with practice and end in a concrete action/actions that participants can take immediately. Your session is more likely to be selected if it includes interactive discussion, role-plays, and practical applications of the concepts presented. We are also very interested in sessions that promote “soft skills” such as networking, self-care, and healthy work-life balance.

Who is eligible to present at MNxMN?

As a grassroots-led conference, we welcome any and all proposals. In our goal of remaining issues-focused and non-partisan, candidates and politicians will be allowed to host a table in the exhibit hall, but are not eligible to sponsor the event, speak or present. Is there compensation for workshop presenters or speakers?

One free full-conference registration is provided to each presenter.* This registration cannot be shared or split. All presenters must be listed when you submit your proposal. Additional presenters cannot be added to your session without approval of MNxMN staff. Presenters who are selected to conduct more than one session are given one free registration in total. Keynote speakers may be eligible to receive a fee. *Your registration provides access to all conference sessions. Registrations, as outlined above, include conference materials, access to the conference backchannel, lunches, receptions, and networking activities.

From a technical standpoint, what is required of me as a workshop presenter or speaker?

Speakers must provide their own Wi-Fi–enabled computer (if Wi-Fi is needed for their presentation), any software required to run their presentation, and the connection/cable necessary for HDMI input into a projector. Standard AV provided by MNxMN includes computer projector, screen, dongles/adapters, speakers for the computer, and wireless access. Other AV equipment requested will be approved case-by-case.

If selected as a workshop presenter or speaker, what information and materials will I be required to submit?

A session description for publication on the web and in the mobile app and print materials. (The MNxMN staff will edit the information you provide according to the MNxMN style and length requirements. You will be required to review the final version for accuracy.) A photo for use on the event website and other event materials. Photos must be formatted to be a minimum of 300 DPI, 5”x7”, and in TIFF, JPG, or PNG formats. Session materials that will be posted for event participants before, during, and after the event.

How do I submit a proposal?

Use the online form here and complete all areas of the form. Completing a submission takes about 10 minutes. Your submission may take longer if it’s not pre-written. You may submit more than one proposal. You must submit a separate form for each session proposed.

When is my workshop proposal due?

Proposals are due by Friday, December 14th in order to finalize the initial list of sessions for registration purposes. However, we will continue accepting proposals and do our best to incorporate them into the schedule up to the day of the event.
